12/8/2023 0 Comments Orange rocker 15![]() Just some thoughts to keep in mind before decide about which Orange to get.Capable of 0.5, 1, 7 or 15 Watts of output, the Rocker 15 is an extremely portable combo that moves seamlessly from the home to the studio to the stage. Those circuits had no shortage of highs and were consistent as there were no tubes to warm up. It took me awhile to adjust to my Orange Dark Terror after coming from years of solid state both good ones and the not so good. Despite what some people will say about it being “ear fatigue”, a bright sound is a bright sound in my world. Before the preamp tubes get fully heated, you might hear some spikiness for a few minutes, but when the tubes heat, that disappears to a large extent. Orange amps have lots of low mids happening which may tend to darken some tones and IMO that benefits crunch and distortion because it smooths out high frequency “fuzz” as some refer to as “buzzing bees”. pedal or a OD or boost with a tone control for that. “Sparkly” or “Trebly” does not really define the Orange ampĬhacteristic tone. I think warm means different things to each of us. I read an occasional review of Orange Terrors (even without clean channel) sounding “warm”. Being discontinued now you'll find them readily available on for cheap either used or New Old Stock. Using just a clean boost could make it sound thin, if you want to beef it up and get high gain on it with more low end, using an overdrive with tone control or even its own 3-band EQ and you'll get that thunderous low end out of it. ![]() Its definitely an amp you will have to give yourself more time with to find your tone. The Brent Hinds Terror has now become my Go-To amp, I sold the Jim Root & Micro Dark Terror and have only the BHT, R15, & Dark Terrors. I'm a 60s, 70s, & 80s Classic & Hard Rock guy and seldom have a need for that much gain so these amps work for me, I use an overdrive to make my tone on these amps a bit more punchy and tight and if I do need high gain my overdrives will deliver this amp into high gain territory. As mentioned you can do metal but if your looking for modern metal and various other extreme high gain metal you'll need a medium to high gain overdrive. Again, its not a monster of high gain but it is indeed more aggressive in its gain stages which start immediately as as you begin dialing it in from 0, even at its lowest point you can hear it. It is very brightly voiced, yes, it has far less bass than its twin the Rocker 15 which is your traditional Orange warm and dark voice. But then around Summer of 2018 I found myself wanting it again, so I did buy another, this time I gave it more time and really worked at the EQs to get a tone from it I liked and have to say I did find it. To be honest, I myself did not meld with it at first, ordered and got it within 2 weeks of its introduction in Jan 2018 and off the bat I could not get used to it so I quickly returned it in exchange for the Rocker 15 which is along the line of what I prefer, sounding like my Dark Terror & Jim Root but just not a high gainer. I would not go on what you hear from video demos either, there are too many variables involved you simply cannot get a really accurate sound from them. Cannot say I would compare it to a Plexi since I never had any vintage 100W Marshall amps and would not know but that is what I read on this forum and other sites. ![]() Well, the Brent Hinds was discontinued towards the end of 2019, it was introduced at Winter NAMM 2018, rather sudden Orange did so in just under 2 years of its sales, I guess it didn't do so well compared to the other Terrors. You won’t be disappointed if you go Orange!Ĭlick to expand. Thanks but I can hardly consider myself a resident Orange Terror expert! I've only had a total of 5 Orange Amps from the Terror Series and none of the big irons. They work great with many pedals both in front and thru the Loop. These amp sound great thru Celestion Vintage 30s and 70th Anniversary speakers as well as many others, you’ll find a lot of posts on the many that others use. While the Rocker 15 and its sibling the Brent Hinds are not considered high gain amps, they do have plenty of gain to do classic rock to modern metal especially if you use an overdrive like I do to add more punch and keep it tight. These little monsters are 15 Watt but don’t kid yourself, they can go from quiet home practice to band rehearsals to gigging small venues without a PA system, especially if you put it through a 412 cab. ![]() Yes, Orange amps are my thing, specifically the Terror series, cool looking lunchbox design, portable yet well built, all tube tones and classic voiced, and tube driven buffered FX Loop. I have the Orange Rocker 15 Terror and the Brent Hinds Terror and Dark Terror and had the Jim Root Terror and Micro Dark Terror. ![]()
